Olympus Tough TG-6 Waterproof Camera – Review

We admit to being rough on our equipment which is why the Olympus tough TG-6 waterproof camera is on our Santa list this year. Does it live up to the hype of being waterproof, rustproof, shockproof, crush proof, and freeze proof? And it’s anti fog to boot.

The Olympus TG-6 is Waterproof

You can go 50 feet deep underwater with this camera. Some owners have pushed it to 75 feet, although we don’t recommend it. If you want to go deeper, buy the Olympus PT-059 underwater housing for it. That will get you to a water depth of 147 feet. We were surprised at the vivid color underwater.

For a good explanation of how 8x zoom on a point and shoot camera might compare with a DSLR see this article on How-To Geek.

It’s not all about water though. The Olympus tough TG-6 waterproof camera has a high resolution F2.0 lens, maximum 8x zoom, TruePic VIII, and back illuminated CMOS image sensor. The optical sensor is 12 megapixels. The video capture resolution is 4K UHD 2160p, 2K DCI 1080p. As a result, Olympus improved the low light performance on this camera and the image quality is superior.

  • Performance in lowlight is very good
  • Underwater photos are very strong
  • Very clean and detailed images

  • No lens cover
  • No case
